This washed Bugisu AA coffee comes from smallholder farmers on the volcanic slopes of Mt. Elgon in eastern Uganda. The AA grade means that over 90% of the beans are screen 17+, with very few defects — a strong sign of quality and consistency.
The farmers grow coffee on small plots of land, usually under 2.5 hectares. This lot is Rainforest Alliance Certified, and producers use climate-smart farming methods that protect biodiversity, improve soil health, and conserve water.
The coffee is handpicked, pulped using small-scale equipment, fermented, and then dried in the sun on raised beds or patios. As processing facilities continue to improve, Uganda's smallholder model is steadily delivering more well-prepared specialty lots like this one.
